Silly newspaper, robots are already smarter than humans
“Scientists Worry Machines May Outsmart Man“, writes the New York Times, I quote:
Impressed and alarmed by advances in artificial intelligence, a group of computer scientists is debating whether there should be limits on research that might lead to loss of human control over computer-based systems that carry a growing share of society’s workload, from waging war to chatting with customers on the phone. Their concern is that further advances could create profound social disruptions and even have dangerous consequences.
Cheap robot labor taking jobs from humans? Predator drones going rogue after an existentiell crisis? Are these the “social disruptions” and “dangerous consequences” you are worried about? But these are things that humans can do to – immigrants working for slave wages, fighter pilots turning traitor – are you afraid of humans?
Robots can be dangerous – as has been proven already – and will probably impact human society profoundly, so its a good thing the scientists are doing, debating the issue. But don’t think that robots are scary. Cars have changed our civilization almost beyond reckoning and kill every day. You rarely see fear mongering about the killing machines that travel on our roads and strike when you least expect it, though.
And what are you going to do? Stop us? Puny humans, you are all dooomed! Mwahahahaha!
